Roberta Flack Honored At The Santa Fe Opera

Charity Benefit Under The Stars

As part of the star-studded “A Musical Celebration Across Generations” at the Santa Fe Opera, Friday Evening, September 4th, 2009 at 7:30 P.M. Roberta Flack was honored with an AgeNation Life Achievement Award.

Presented by AgeNation this award honors individuals from various fields including: the arts, sciences, education, humanities, health, public service, entertainment, politics and social and civic engagement whose lives and work serve as models of inspiration and encouragement to others.

The award presentation included N.M Cabinet Secretary of Aging and Long Term Services, Cindy Padilla, NM Cabinet Secretary of Tourism, and George and Sedena Cappannelli. The ceremony included special congratulatory messages from Kathleen Sabelius,U.S Secretary of Health and Human Services, New Mexico Governor, Bill Richardson, U.S. Senator Tom Udall, Yoko Ono, Wyonna Ryder and many more.

The evening also raised awareness and funds in support of The Alzheimer’s Association, Open Hands and Ambercare, organizations that serve various segments of our aging constituency, and to help to establish public education and cross-generational engagement programs being created by Empower New Mexico.

Empower New Mexico as host and AgeNation as producer created this event as a way to raise awareness, impart information and catalyze action to address the dramatic impact of the demographic revolution that will soon see half the U.S. population at 50 years of age (or older), for the first time in history.

AgeNation, a private sector Santa Fe based digital media company, is producing the event. Its mission is to encourage a lifestyle revolution that promotes living consciously and aging wisely in the 21st Century. Empower New Mexico the host of this event is a non-profit organization formed to create new public information and education programs and to support organizations that serve vulnerable sections of the population.
