Charity partners to raise awareness and funds

Empower New Mexico seeks to raise awareness and funds to inform, inspire, and engage New Mexican’s regarding the critical challenges and unique opportunities they will soon face as 50% of the state’s population will soon be over 50 years of age for the first time in history.

This year the effort includes: A Broadway Series, three highly acclaimed theatrical productions from New York designed to open hearts and lift spirits in support of a good cause. There are two shows remaining as part of spring series that runs at the Lensic.

Say Good Night Gracie, The Love, Laughter and Life of George Burns by Rupert Holmes’ Tony Nominated, June 4, 5, 6. “You’ll be in heaven yourself, at least, for an hour and a half.” – The New York Times

Ethel Merman’s Broadway, June 25, 26, 27, featuring the remarkable Rita McKenzie. “A captivating, compelling and lyrical solo tour de force salute to Merman, the Queen of Broadway.” – Hollywood Reporter.

The first show in the series, A Tribute to Ella Fitzgerald, May 7, 8, 9, featuring Broadway star Freda Payne, “was very well received by audiences”, who came to understand why Variety said, “Payne bears a remarkable resemblance to the legendary singer’s sound.”

Each Saturday Evening performance in A Broadway Series will be preceded by the presentation of an AgeNation Achievement Award presented to individuals from various fields including: the arts, sciences, education, humanities, health, public service, entertainment, and social and civic engagement who serve as models of inspiration to others.

These events will also raise funds to help support other vital Empower New Mexico programs in 2010: Navigating The Future Dialogues & Conferences and Inspire New Mexico, a state wide public service radio and television campaign. Funds raised from A Broadway Series will also support the work of other non-profit organizations that serve vulnerable segments of our aging constituency.
